Red wine shares the spotlight on the Asolo, Conegliano and Valdobbiadene hills!
Red wine bursting with history from Montello and the Conegliano hills
While Prosecco Superiore is unquestionably the leading light of the Asolo, Conegliano and Valdobbiadene Hills, it isn’t the only outstanding product from the area. Red wine from Montello and the Conegliano hills has been highly regarded ever since the 16th century and it should definitely not be missed.
The Montello area has always been appreciated for its clayey soil, which is packed with iron and minerals. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes are grown there and used to make DOC and DOCG Montello wines (the difference between the two lies in the ageing times).
The wines are ideal for serving with meat, medium cheeses from shepherds’ huts on Monte Grappa and traditional Veneto dishes such as the delicious soup known as sopa coada. DOCG Colli di Conegliano red wines are another example of exceptional products from the area. Mainly made with a masterful blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marzemino and Merlot, they perfectly complement traditional meat-based dishes such as spit roasts.
