Visiting nativity scenes in the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene
Fascinating representations of the Nativity among the Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene
Depicting the Nativity is a tradition that dates back to the 3rd-4th centuries A.D., but it was in 1223 that the nativity scene, or presepio, as we understand it today, was born: St Francis reproposed a representation of the Nativity in Greccio (RI), setting up a grotto in the woods near the village.
From that first representation, the tradition of the nativity scene spread further and further, and every year it fascinates numerous people who, with their creativity, create enchanting works of art. Among the Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, there are numerous places to admire artistic nativity scenes created by skilled artisans and enthusiasts! In Cison di Valmarino, Castelbrando hosts Il presepe delle Colline (The Crib of the Hills) and in the hamlet of Mura there is Mura a Natale (Mura at Christmas). La mostra dei presepi (The crib exhibition) is made even more evocative by the fantastic setting of the Molinetto della Croda, where it is installed. In Valdobbiadene, a real Presepe Artistico (Artistic Nativity scene) is set up. Even in Segusino there is an enchanting Presepio artistico (artistic Nativity scene) that is a must-see. The Cis Mosnigo Association organises la rassegna dei presepi e degli alberi di Natale (the exhibition of cribs and Christmas trees), while in Ramera di Mareno di Piave, the Presepio Artistico (Artistic Nativity) accompanies you in search of an oasis of peace and serenity.
