Cansiglio Forest near the Prosecco Superiore Hills is like a green lung for the area
Get into the heart of nature and hear the deer bellowing in Cansiglio Forest
Cansiglio Forest near the Prosecco Superiore Hills is like a green lung for the area. Known as the “Oar Woods” under the Republic of Venice, nowadays it’s the perfect place for a day out exploring and exercising.
Unparalleled delights: between late summer and early autumn, numerous herds of deer amass in the Cansiglio Forest, rutting and racing across the Cansiglio Plateau. Every year, large numbers of nature lovers head up there before the first light of dawn to admire the stunning sights and listen to them bellowing. Everyone should leap at the chance to witness the display, including you! Just make sure you don’t disturb the deer in any way.
The forest was also included in the top places to visit in Europe for foliage fans in 2018 and it is very popular with photography enthusiasts and all lovers of the great outdoors. As well as beech trees, the forest contains Norway spruces that were introduced by people. Consequently, in the autumn the yellow and red of the former are broken up by the green of the latter.
